The Best Times to Post Content on Social Media According to Hootsuite

Whether you are posting content individually or for your business, we’re all looking to boost the number of likes, shares and clicks on social media. Hootsuite, a scheduling tool used for all kinds of social media platforms, can be a huge help when it comes to posting and can also help you decide when to post throughout the day.
Here at HBI, we mainly rely on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to share client and company content, however, Hootsuite can help you keep track of and post from other platforms such as Instagram, YouTube and WordPress.
It’s understandable that we focus mostly on the subject, wording and graphics of the content we are sharing, but there is one factor that we sometimes overlook. Timing. Are there certain times of the day that are better for posting than others? According to Hootsuite, absolutely.
Here is how Hoostuite breaks down social media timing:
With almost two billion users, Facebook is one of the most popular and widely-used social media platforms. After reviewing a study done by Pew Research, Hootsuite reports that the best times to post on Facebook are:
  • Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday between noon and 3 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday from noon to 1 p.m.
Twitter is another common social media platform that acts as a live newspaper for users across the globe. Its fast-paced newsfeed and character count restrictions allow followers to stay up to date on everything that’s happening without being flooded with too much info.
Hootsuite studied tweet patterns and found that the most beneficial times to post on Twitter are:
  • Weekdays between noon and 3 p.m.
“For us as a B2B organization, the best times to tweet are between noon and 3 p.m. on weekdays, with the highest number of clicks and retweets occurring at 3 p.m.,” says social media team lead Amanda Wood.

LinkedIn is used to network with other professionals and learn more about potential employees and companies. Since it is a professional network, it makes sense that LinkedIn is the most active during work hours and Hootsuite reported that 57 percent of its activity comes from mobile users.
According to Hootsuite, the most beneficial times to post content on LinkedIn are:
  • Monday through Thursday at 7:45 a.m., 10:45 a.m., 12:45 p.m., and 5:45 p.m.
“The Hootsuite social team posts on the 45-minute mark because most brands are posting on the hour,” Wood says.
Of course, theses times may be more beneficial to other companies or entities based on the subject of their content, but don’t be afraid to experiment with different times to see what works best for your brand.
Additionally, Hootsuite recommends following these tips to help market your brand:
  • Know your audience
  • Use the same content to test different times
  • Consider your location
  • Use the right tools
  • Keep an eye on the competition
  • Continue to test and optimize
