Summary
In 2022, the National Down Syndrome Congress (NDSC) partnered with HBE to create and launch the Big Game Ball, a signature fundraising event aimed at raising awareness and funding for inclusive postsecondary education (IPSE) programs for individuals with Down syndrome. The event, held at the College Football Hall of Fame, celebrates universities that champion inclusive education and has become NDSC’s largest annual fundraiser. Recognized by the PRSA with a Phoenix Award and a Best of Phoenix finalist nod in 2023, the Big Game Ball has significantly advanced both fundraising and policy impact efforts.

Challenges
Among our challenges was creating a high-impact, first-time fundraising event from scratch. Raising visibility for IPSE programs, which were largely underrecognized at the time. Securing substantial sponsorships and participation from major corporations for a new event. Keeping event costs low while maximizing experience and exposure. Translating event awareness into tangible education access and policy change.

Solutions
HBE managed full event planning, logistics, and execution, focusing on efficiency and experience. Negotiated cost reductions with the College Football Hall of Fame and enlisted school mascots, bands, and cheerleaders for entertainment. Formed a 31-member host committee with representatives from major brands like ESPN, Coca-Cola, and the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl to secure sponsorships. Secured over 50 high-value silent auction items to drive on-site fundraising. Strategically honored universities with IPSE programs to elevate awareness and institutional support.
